Installing SoL 25
From SoL 25 Wiki
[edit] Minimum System Requirements
- CPU type >= i686
- 128 MB RAM
- 10 GB free disk space
- DVD drive or network card (no wireless)
For the Diskless Mode, you will need at least 512 MB RAM and a DVD drive. If you want to use the split filesystem layout, you need additional 10 GB free disk space, requiring a total of 20 GB free disk space.
[edit] Obtaining SoL 25
Before you can install SoL 25, you need to download the SoL 25 ISO (the filename is SoL-25.00.iso, make sure you do not download the BETA version!) from one of these mirrors:
- IBIBLIO - ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/sol/SoL-25.00/
- NLUUG - ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distributions/sol/SoL-25.00/
- TU Wien - http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/sol/SoL-25.00/
- TU Chemnitz - ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/sunsite.unc-mirror/distributions/sol/SoL-25.00/
- KDE (Austrian mirror) - ftp://download.at.kde.org/platform/Linux/sol/SoL-25.00/
Alternatively, there is also a Torrent download available, see TuxDistro for more information.
Since this a rather huge and long download, you should verify your downloaded image by checking its size and the MD5 checksum.
- Size of SoL-25.00.iso: 1902876672 Bytes (1,8 GB)
- MD5 sum: 863e8a28ccac80422bc5ffc0e2d36912
We additionally provide an .MD5 file, which can be used to check the MD5 sum as well, by invoking the command "md5sum -c SoL-25.00.md5".
[edit] The Installation
Now that you have your ISO image ready, you have two options on how to install SoL 25:
If you want to install SoL 25 from DVD, you need to burn the ISO image onto a DVD.
Alternatively, you may just run the Diskless Mode which requires no installation (but a SoL 25 DVD).
